I read about the Circuit Cellar contest on the Picaxe forum and immediately went to the
CC Web site to take a look. A brief look through the description of the WizNET W5100 chip
made me want to play with it, so I went ahead and entered the contest.
I got to the party late, I didn't think that I'd get one of the modules that were
available to people who entered the contest, but I figured I'd give it a shot.
The contest entry form asks for information about the project that you're
interested in creating, since I've been working on a toolkit for connecting a
Picaxe network to a PC for information, command and control I decided that would
be a good project to try. I think I said something like
I've been working on creating a library for connecting the
Picaxe microcontroller to a PC using serial connections, an FTP site, and
UDP connectors. The WIZnet W5100 chip should eliminate the PC and makes it possible
to connect the Picaxe network directly to the Internet.
After I sent in my request for a sample module I went back to read over the
information about the W5100. Probably a good idea since I'll need to know how
to use the thing if I get one in the mail.
